Join DC 37 for a Rally Aug. 15 to Protest ICE Deportations

Union activists from the Northeast will gather in Philadelphia on Wed., Aug. 15 to rally and call for the end of deportations by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and an end to President Trump’s zero-tolerance policy on immigration.

“The administration is so extreme on immigration that they’re deporting the spouses of military veterans,” said Florida U.S. Congress member Darren Soto. And The Washington Post has reported that the Trump administration’s policy of separating families at the border has been unable to reunite 572 immigrant children with their parents.

DC 37 activists will be joining Unite Here!, which represents workers in the hotel, food service and transportation industries, and other union and immigration activists at 4 p.m. at Penn’s Landing to call for an end to the Trump policies.

In New York City, DC 37 has taken a stand against the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents (ICE) who go to city courthouses, looking to intimidate immigrants seeking legal help. In March, DC 37 and other activists rallied in Manhattan’s Foley Square to demand an end to the presence of ICE in the courts.

“My members feel strongly that ICE does not belong in the courts,” said Fausto Sabatino, president of Court, County and Depart. of Probation Employees Local 1070.

DC 37 will be sending two buses to the Philadelphia rally against the abusive deportation policies of the Trump administration. Buses will leave union headquarters at 125 Barclay St., in Manhattan at 1 p.m. sharp.
