COVID Rent Relief Program Now Available For New York Tenants: Application Deadline: July 30

New York State has directed $100 million of federal stimulus funds toward rent relief. Tenants can now apply for these funds to offset the loss of income during the COVID-19 crisis.  The COVID Rent Relief Program will provide eligible households with a one-time rental subsidy that will be sent directly to the household’s landlord.  Tenants will not need to repay this assistance.    Applications are being accepted through July 30, 2020. Free Wills & Life Planning Documents for City Workers

The Municipal Employees Legal Services (MELS) has partnered with Volunteers of Legal Services (VOLS) to launch a Frontline Worker Initiative to provide FREE life planning documents, Wills, Power of Attorney, Health Care Proxies, to COVID-19 pandemic frontline workers. MELS offers this service to all DC 37 members who are participants in the Health and Security Plan. Now several hundred pro bono attorneys are ready to help us meet members’ needs, including Local 215 and Local 389 members who work at nonprofit agencies. You can apply online. Three Free College Degree Programs for Local 372 Members

WILLIAMS  DC 37’s helping Local 372 members with three unique degree programs the union has negotiated with Monroe College and LaGuardia College’s Food Service Management Program. “We have an incredible education benefit that allows members to earn degrees that when paired with their work experience, prepares them to move up the career ladder in the Dept. of Education and earn better salaries,” said Local 372 and DC 37 President Shaun D. Time Off to Vote June 23 New Changes

VOTING UPDATE: Primary Day is June 23. We are providing you with the updated information on getting time off to vote on June 23.  Section 3-110 of the New York State Election Law, which relates to providing employees in New York State time off to vote, was amended effective April 3, 2020. The changes made are as follows:  Employees are eligible for voting leave only if they do not have four (4) consecutive hours either between the opening of the polls and the beginning of their working shift, or between the end of their working shift and the closing of the polls; and  Employees who do not have such a four (4) hour window are eligible to take off only as much working time as will, when added to their voting time outside working hours, enable the employee to vote, up to two (2) hours of which time must be without loss of pay.  The PSB 440-3 that was referenced is out of date.  We [More...]

DC 37 has added more FREE services to help members during the COVID-19 pandemic. EMERGENCY COVID-19 CERTIFICATE for PUBLIC SCHOOL WORKERS, APPLY by SEPT. 1 Candidates seeking certain certificates and extensions may be eligible for the Emergency COVID-19 certificate, allowing them to work in public schools or districts for one year while taking and passing the required exam(s). You must apply on or before Sept. 1.  Learn more about how to earn the teaching certificate here.  DC 37 EDUCATION FUND  Summer HSE Classes: The DC 37 Ed Fund offers High School Equivalency Diplomas via online classes in July. Classes are offered in English and Spanish and the exam is available in English and Spanish. NYC H+H’s Peace Rally for Black Lives Matter
